Essentials for Clear Skin

As someone with gut issues and acne prone skin, I’ve realized there are a few important essentials to have daily in order to have clear and healthier skin!

And I am going to share them with you today!

Sleep

Have you ever noticed that your skin looks so fresh and amazing as soon as you wake up?

I have always wondered why that is!

When we sleep, that is our bodies time to repair itself.

When we are sleeping, our skin is actually making new collagen, which is why our skin looks so plump when we wake up.

Our body needs at least 7 hours to receive its optimal healing time.

Any less then 5 hours could result in fine lines becoming more visible and drier skin.

Sleep also helps to boost our bodies blood flow to our skin.

That is another reason why when we get a good nights sleep, we wake up with such a pretty glow!

So the saying “beauty sleep” may actually have more truth in itself then we realize!

Collagen-

Collagen is actually very important for our skin. In fact it’s the most abundant protein in our body!

Collagen helps to strengthen our skin, giving it the proper hydration and elasticity it needs.

As we age, our bodies naturally produce less and less collagen.

Taking it in the form of a supplement or powder will help protect your skin and help you keep that young and glowy appearance.

My favorite ways to take my collagen is through a natural protein powder or bone broth.

Here are some more benefits of taking collagen:

•Skin health

•Keeps bones strong

•Supports a healthy heart

•Promotes a healthy gut

•May aid in weight loss and a faster metabolism

•Improves mood and reduces anxiety

• Improves Brain Health

•Relieves joint pain

Water-

Yes, the oldest trick in the book for young and glowing skin!

It will probably always hold the title for being such a key factor to healthy skin, because it really DOES work!

Our body is made up of about 60% water. Now imagine if we’re not drinking enough water each day, not only will our vital organs suffer, so will each of our cells, our digestion can get backed up, and our skin will get dehydrated.

This is when problems occur and wrinkles can form prematurely.

It’s recommended to drink at least a half a gallon of water every day, or half of your body weight in ounces.

I always love to start my day with a big glass of water. It motivates me to be healthier throughout the day, and it also helps to make up for the lack of water I couldn’t drink while asleep!

Supplements-

It’s also very important that you’re getting the correct amount of vitamins and minerals every day.

Vitamins help protect our skin from sun damage, helps to fight inflammation, and overall keep your skin clear and healthy.

A great way to do that is by taking a multivitamin.

Here are some really amazing supplements focused primarily on healthy and clear skin:

•Zinc

•Magnesium

•Vitamin C

•Turmeric

•Vitamin D

Skincare-

Did you know that it only takes 26 seconds for the products you apply on your skin to enter into your blood stream?

I didn’t realize that until recently.

So considering that, it’s sooo important for you to know what your putting on your skin daily!

When I started struggling with acne, I realized I needed to go through all my products and throw away any that were comedogenic, because I wanted to make sure the ingredients inside weren’t clogging my pores.

I always want to make sure I am using clean and natural products.

It may be time consuming, but checking the ingredients in your skincare will really benefits your skin! You can see a list of ingredients here.

Helpful Tip: Whenever I am shopping for new skincare products I use the EWG app to check every single ingredients toxicity/ natural levels. It makes it so much easier to find clean products!

Diet-

This. is. a. big. one!

What we eat can affect everything from gut health, to our skin, to much more!

If you read my latest post, I talked about the diet that I am on that is truly healing my acne!

All I did was cut out the inflammatory foods and switch to healthy whole foods.

As a result my skin is looking so good! (The candida diet).

The best foods that you can implement in your diet for clearer skin, are foods that are high in protein, good fats, veggies, and fiber.

Here are a few foods that are considered high in each of these categories:

Protein: clean and organic meats, almonds, eggs, oats.

Good fats: avocado, fatty fish, nuts, eggs.

Veggies: broccoli, spinach, kale, onion, asparagus, etc.

Fiber: berries, beans and legumes, flax and Chia seeds, dark leafy greens.

That’s it! Those are what I believe to be some of the most important essentials for clear and healthy skin!

How about you? How have these helped you, or do you feel that you need to implement one or more for your skin health journey?

Let me know! I’d love to hear from you!✨
